ABOUT THE EXTRAVAGANZA
The Extravaganza began several decades ago as a Festival of Trees that was created by two nonprofit organizations operating in Beaver County. Their mission was to raise funds in support of their goals. The concept in its original development was to get community sponsors to provide decorated Christmas trees for display and then auction them to the public. After all expenses were covered the proceeds were divided up between the operating organizations.
Within a few years the festival was turned over to others who proceeded to continue the event and consequently providing the proceeds to a different nonprofit organization.
After two decades of operating the individual retired with no one available to assume its continuing. At the 13th hour, a member of the board agreed to assume the responsibility for the festival through an existing nonprofit organization known as U.S. SARR Corps, an all volunteer search team that trains and provides systems for locating missing children and adults headquartered in Beaver Falls. Through the support of our committee & U.S. SARR Corps, the Extravaganza has began the process of its own nonprofit status. They extend much thanks to U.S. SARR Corps for helping us keep this event going!!
Beaver County has gone through difficult times of changing demographics, from heavy industry to a bedroom community for the Pittsburgh area. Traditions were changing, migration began taking hold along with numerous technological innovations. Attendance began decreasing and getting volunteers became difficult. It was time for new ideas.
The Extravaganza Concept
The name was chosen to provide a broader base to enable an expanded base of activities for community enjoyment. It relies on family involvement along with other Christmas activities beyond trees, it needed more emphasis on kids. After all Santa Claus is the worlds’ most recognized brand. The goal is to continue adding both indoor and outdoor activities and to make this the most popular Christmas season attraction in the tri-state area.
We are now building three major shows in one, they are –
• A Festival of Trees
• An Outdoor Light Show
• A gigantic walk through Yard Art Display
A fabulous Christmas Extravaganza, and there is more to come.
The Beaver County Christmas Extravaganza is held for two consecutive weekends beginning on Thanksgiving Day. It is held at the Lodge and grounds in Bradys Run Park, with FREE shuttle parking at the Ice Arena.
There are several days between the two weekends for free addition visitation days for special needs residents.
There is food, live local entertainment, a gift shop, a model train display and Santa Land for the kids in the lodge, along with special costumed greeters for all of our visitors and loads of beautiful Christmas trees for all to enjoy.
Yes there is more to come in the future. But we need all the help we can get to keep building this extraordinary Christmas event for Beaver County residents and our neighbors.
